HDMI output issue was created by ludojoey
Hi!

The HDMI output of my Micro-8 seems to have an issue.
A lot of artefact, bad colors, unstable image
VGA output is ok.

Real colors should be (and are on the VGA output):

HDMI output is:

A short video:

Obviously I changed the cable, tested the cable and monitor.

Any ideas?

PS: I sent 2 emails dated 08/14 and 08/19, but not sure they were received as I didn't get any response.

I just checked again my email and got nothing. Strange because I've received mails from you in the past with no issues.

The 800x480 resolution is not well supported by all monitor digital controllers unfortunately. This is a DVI WVGA signal over the supposedly backward compatible HDMI. Most monitor work fine (especially cheap Chinese brands, curiously), but some do not recognise the signal correctly. Your Micro-8 is totally fine anyways.

If your monitor has a DP (displayport) input, a solution is to put a cheap ACTIVE (with power cable) HDMI to DP module that will resample the signal and output a standard DP resolution. Such as :  bit.ly/4y7zJ6w

Brands that work well generally (it really depends on the controller and not just on the brand itself so do not take this as an absolute truth): Eyoyo, Nilox, Samsung
Brands that we had the most problems with: Sony, HP

The best monitors are the one with a large number of various inputs, such as CCTV monitors, their controllers accept pretty much any timing you throw at them.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the explanation.
Right, my monitor is an HP.
When in holidays, I used (without any issue) a Philips one.

In fact, the issue was also with my HDMI video capture device (I wanted to make some small videos of my games).
Well, unfortunately I won't do them !
I also have a VGA capture device, but it doesn't accept WVGA

Which device do you to capture the HDMI (or VGA) output?

At home I use this device (I use the HDMI input):
www.startech.com/en-be/audio-video-produ...pnXYnm5Dj-j9Nsec3KDX

It is highly configurable and captures any custom resolution and framerates. But it is pricey.

Since I'm in Belgium at the moment and wanted a cheap temporary solution here I bought this:
www.amazon.com.be/dp/B0GVJB45VK?ref=ppx_..._dt_b_fed_asin_title
It works fine but is limited to 30 FPS and does not capture audio (not a problem as you can connect Micro-8 audio output to the PC audio input).

Be aware that most 4k capture cards/dongles won't work because they ditch the older controllers that supported lower resolutions.

Hope that helps.
