Still exploring the Micro-8, I'd like to introduce my new game: HOOGY (need last OS ver 0.7.9 !)!

The concept is simple: blast the aliens, help Mr Hoogy by sending him hearts, and, from time to time, make your way through a tunnel!

At first, the aliens are fairly harmless... but things quickly get out of hand!

Action is everywhere, enemies are firing from all directions, your laser overheats, and there's plenty of noise!

I'll let you discover the rest for yourselves!

In the end, our little Micro-8 proves once again that it's more than capable!

Technical Notes

One of my goals was to make use of raster interrupts and display lists to implement parallax scrolling.

There are still a few occasional glitches that I haven't been able to track down yet. It's almost as if some raster interrupts are occasionally being skipped (but probably not).

As for the sound effects... well, they are what they are! I'm definitely not a musician, but in the end they give the game a nice 1980s arcade vibe, which I quite like. 😄

Special thanks to Franck for his advice throughout the development of this game.

Exactly! Well done!

It was one of those games that made me dream back then. I did own a TI-99/4A, but I never had the cartridge because it was a bit too expensive for my family's budget. I only got to play it many years later!

By the way, the spaceship is directly inspired by the one from Parsec.

My original idea was to create something similar to Parsec. But in the end, the game turned out to be very different.

The gameplay is what it is, considering that I'm still a beginner when it comes to game development!

Speaking of the TI-99/4A, the Micro-8 startup screen with its colorful test pattern immediately reminded me of it.

I eventually understood why when I discovered on Franck's website that he had owned one when he was younger!

Oh yes, Parsec is probably one of the best game for TI99.   I immediately recognised the iconic spaceship  I only discovered the game much later, when I got a disk drive for my TI-99 (the cartridges were far too expensive). I was fascinated by the female synthesised voice, as I was used to the standard voice of the Speech Synthesizer.

Well done for the game !
